Greenville Women Giving SHEro campaign recognizes inspirational women

In each of our lives, there have been women on whose shoulders we stand, who have guided us, encouraged us, shown us the way, empowered us, and made an unforgettable impact on our lives. Greenville Women Giving (GWG) provides a meaningful way to honor them through its annual SHEro campaign.

Greenville Women Giving is a women’s collective giving organization that funds Greenville County non-profit organizations in the areas of arts, education, environment, health, and human services.

Individuals may recognize women who have inspired them by making a $50 donation per honoree to Greenville Women Giving before April 16. The names of all honorees – and those who honored them – will be recognized in the Friday, May 7 edition of the Greenville Journal.

This year, Greenville Women Giving added a new category called Covid SHEro, honoring women who have made a particular impact during the pandemic.

“Your SHEro may be a coach from long ago, a living or deceased relative, or the supermarket cashier or teacher who helped make life healthier, safer, and easier during the pandemic,” explains GWG Co-Chair Diane Perlmutter. “All SHEro donations support annual grant funding as well as the GWG Endowment. It’s the ultimate gift of thanks.”

This marks the fourth annual SHEro campaign and the first time it supports current year grant funding in addition to the Greenville Women Giving Endowment.

Perlmutter added, “Covid has presented significant challenges to non-profit organizations throughout our community. In response, Greenville Women Giving has made many adjustments to the way we operate, including how we award grants and the allocation of SHEro funds. The goal is to provide critical funding to as many local non-profits as possible during this time of unprecedented need. We believe it’s the right thing to do and in the best interest of our community as a whole.”

Last year, 174 women were honored as SHEroes, raising nearly $10,000.

To participate in the SHEro campaign, simply go to www.greenvillewomengiving.org and click the “Honor Your SHEro” button on the homepage. Follow the instructions to complete the donation. To donate by check, download a printable PDF from the SHEro page of the GWG website. Complete the form and mail it with a check made payable to Greenville Women Giving to 630 E. Washington Street, Suite A, Greenville, SC 29601.

There is no limit to the number of SHEroes an individual may recognize, but each requires a $50 minimum donation. Donations must be received by April 16.
