Greenville Jewish Film festival showing Bella this week

GREENVILLE, SC-- Bella, a moving story about enduring friendship and hope amid a world of chaos, will be screened Sunday, August 30, at 4 p.m. at Camelot Cinemas as part of the Greenville Jewish Film Festival’s Pop-Up Movie Series.

The film follows Yaki, who discovers that his only inheritance is a prize show dove. When the dove slips away almost as soon as she arrives, Yaki persuades his childhood friend Bilal to join him on a road trip across Israel and Palestine to bring her home. With their wives along for the journey, the friends race against the clock to recover the dove before the Jerusalem Dove Beauty Pageant.

Bella is directed by Zohar Shachar, a Jewish Israeli, and Jamal Khalaily, a Palestinian. The two have been friends and creative partners since 2015.  “We believe that stories of hope, led by kind, multicultural protagonists, are essential in a world like ours,” the directors wrote about the film.

“The message of Bella is an amazing one, and it’s something we are proud to bring to Greenville,” said Caroline Warthen, co-founder of the Greenville Jewish Film Festival. “We want to give a special thank you to Thomas and Sandra Kester for generously sponsoring this GJFF event.”

The screening is part of the Greenville Jewish Film Festival’s Pop-Up Movie Series, bringing thought-provoking films and opportunities for connection to the Greenville community throughout the year.
