Former Clemson place kickers launch PK Capital and PK Legacy Builders

Christian Groomes and Greg Huegel bring championship values, private lending experience, and commercial construction prowess

Clemson University football teammates Christian Groomes and Greg Huegel announced the launch of their two complementary businesses: PK Capital and PK Legacy Builders. The former place kickers are bringing their teamwork from the field to the business world, offering specialized private lending through PK Capital and high-end luxury residential construction services through PK Legacy Builders.

Drawing on years of friendship and professional experience, the two are introducing a thoughtful, hands-on approach to private lending and residential construction across the Upstate. The firms are built on a hallmark of transparency, creativity, and building lasting relationships. Their companies’ names pay homage to their football roots – a nod to their days as placekickers at Clemson, a role that demanded readiness, resilience, and the ability to deliver under pressure.

“For me, construction has always been about more than just building structures—it’s about building trust and lasting relationships,” Huegel said. “We approach every project with careful planning, clear communication, and a commitment to quality. Our goal is to deliver work of which we are proud and to make the process as seamless as possible for our clients.”

Huegel, a former All-American kicker who earned a degree in Construction Science and Management from Clemson, and Groomes, who has built a nationally recognized track record in private lending, first developed their business plans during late-night conversations as teammates at Clemson University.

“This is something Greg and I have been talking about for years,” Groomes said. “We’ve taken different paths since college, but the idea of building something together stuck with us. PK Capital reflects the kind of lending partner I always wanted to work with: reliable, creative, and focused on relationships.”

Both companies emphasize their commitment to problem-solving, quality workmanship, and maintaining their word—values they attribute to their time with the Clemson football program under Head Coach Dabo Swinney.

“We often find ourselves going back to what everybody calls ‘Sweeney-isms,'” Huegel noted. “All the different things that you look for to have great success as an athlete tie directly into any industry.”

The companies were introduced at a small gathering in downtown Greenville, where Groomes and Huegel were joined by family, friends, and mentors. The evening included a video message from Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney, whose influence has remained a steady presence in their lives since their college days.

“We pride ourselves on always trying to do the right thing,” Groomes said. “Greenville is a big town, but it’s really not. At the end of the day, everybody knows everybody. We operate with transparency and honesty.”
