Bon Secours announced it has successfully concluded negotiations with UnitedHealthcare, avoiding any disruption in care and ensuring 30,000 patients in Upstate South Carolina will continue to have in-network access to Bon Secours’ providers and facilities.
This agreement, effective July 1, covers all of UnitedHealthcare’s South Carolina contracts, including commercial (employer-sponsored), Medicare Advantage, Exchange
(Marketplace/ACA), and the Veteran’s Affairs Community Care Network (VACCN) health plans.
Bon Secours and UnitedHealthcare began negotiations in January, working diligently to secure appropriate reimbursement increases that support high-quality, compassionate care for patients. The new agreement does just that, ensuring Bon Secours hospitals, physicians, urgent care clinics, ambulatory surgery centers, and other care sites remain in-network for all patients covered by UnitedHealthcare’s plans in Upstate South Carolina.
“I’m proud we were able to come together and find a resolution that puts our shared priority – the communities we serve – first,” said Matt Caldwell, president, Bon Secours St. Francis in Greenville. “With this agreement, patients can continue to receive the care they need and deserve without any disruption of services.”
At Bon Secours, our goal is to have long-term agreements with all major payers so our patients can have seamless access to quality care in our community. We understand the possibility of being out of network with United Healthcare has been difficult, and we want to express heartfelt gratitude to our patients for their grace and support as we diligently worked through these negotiations.
We remain focused on continuing to invest in the health and well-being of our communities, while preserving our continued ability to provide compassionate and accessible care to patients. We are proud to have served the healthcare needs of Upstate residents for nearly a century and look forward to continuing to focus on providing good help to all in need, especially those who are vulnerable and underserved.
