To help raise awareness for fire safety, Parker District firefighters visited Alexander, Cherrydale, Duncan-Chapel, Hollis, Monaview, and Welcome Elementary Schools as part of Fire Prevention Week.
The focus was “Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen” because cooking is the number one cause of home fires and home fire injuries, said Greg Farley, Chief of the Parker District Fire Department.
“Ensuring that our community is aware of fire safety and prevention is incredibly important to the Parker District Fire Department,” he said. “The visits to local elementary schools are meaningful and it is rewarding to know we are making a difference within the area.”
As part of their visit, Parker District Fire Department handed out 1,855 Fire Prevention “Goody Bags.” These bags contained fire prevention themed coloring books, crayons, rulers, pencils, erasers, and small firefighter toys as well as Dalmatian fire helmets. They also delivered 124 teacher bags containing a reusable Parker District Fire Department bag, an insulated “Teacher Strong” cup and other teacher supplies such as dry erase markers, tissues, pencils, Neosporin, paper and more.
“Supporting our community includes informing them, but it also includes providing them with resources,” said Alan Kay, Chairman of the Parker subdistrict, “Educators and students have been under more stress than usual, so we are happy to support them.”
